While in Seattle ...
I met 3 girls on the street and paid them for their services. They were very good at what they did and quite attractive too I have to say.
Now before you all jump on me and start questioning my moral values, the 3 girls I met were actually busking oustside a rather old Starbucks cafe just in front of the Pike's Place Market. [The Starbucks chain of coffee houses was actually founded here in Seattle.]
I was in Seattle for a few days of meetings and arrived on Friday night which meant I had the whole weekend to tour the city. Fantastic stuff!! So I visited the obligatory tourist spots, Pike's Place Market, the Space Needle, ChinaTown and Downtown. [I'll blog about these at a later date.]
Anyway, back to the story about these girls. I was in Pike's Place Market and had walked around for a bit when I stepped outside of the covered area to try to walk around the crowds. That's when I saw a crowd gathering outside this cafe. As I walked closer, I heard the girls singing. So like the rest of the tourist folk, I stood around , took pictures [one of the few times you can take out your camera and start taking pictures of girls without anyone thinking you're sick in the head] and enjoyed the music of course.
What music were they singing? How do I describe it? Not pop or rock, I guess just classical American tunes made popular in the 70s. These girls certainly could draw a crowd. Then in between songs, a lady asked them what they were raising money for. Unfortunately I couldn't hear what the reply was but I did hear that they are in highschool! That's when my jaw dropped. They certainly don't look like they're from highschool! Come to think of it, during my highschool days I was still watching Visionaries cartoons then. [In my defence, that cartoon was fantastic! Still is in my opinion!]
I hung around for a little while, enjoying the tunes and the Seattle sunshine. Really really enjoyable. I thought to myself, "this place would be perfect for a laid back honeymoon". Finally I reached into my wallet and dropped a buck into the guitar case. I would have given more but that was the only small change I had at the time. As I started walking away, they started singing one of my favourite tunes ... "Going to the chapel and we're ... gonna get married ...... ". Yes, a perfect day indeed [if I can only find a chapel] : ).
[Ok all ... this will be the last post for a while ... going to go on-site where internet access will be very limited ... take care and keep warm ...]

Aw... I love Pike Place Market. I was staying at a hostel just around the corner from the market so every evening I'd drop by. Didn't like Seattle that much though. Might be the dreary weather. Thought it was a bit of a disappointment.
Hey Marianne,
I have to agree, the weather is mostly dull and grey but when the sun pops out, it is fantastic.
All in all, there really isn't much to do in Seattle. I had seen all the tourist spots in 2 days. If you're into skiing however, a 45 minute drive would get you to a ski slope.
It was great fun for me because after working for 5 weeks without much else to do, exploring another city like Seattle was a god send.
