Shattered ...

We thought we were going to have a quiet dinner tonight. Simple fare at 'Taurus Hawker Foods', simple decor with glass top tables & rather comfortable benches (albeit a little too low). Alas it was not to be. 6 of us had arrived & were sitting at a table, 3 more were on their way to the restaurant. So we figured that 9 was a bit of a tight squeeze & decided to join tables. We grabbed the next table & proceeded to move it, then suddenly ..... CRASH!!!!!

The glass top for the table that we were moving had shattered into a million pieces!!! I remember seeing it almost in slow motion, where the glass at the middle of the table just fell to the floor, I also received a small cut on my finger. I don't quite remember the noise but I bet it was loud. Everything stood still for a moment, everyone stopped what they were doing & stared in our direction. We weren't rough but we did make contact with the other table & it must have been just enough (& at the right frequency) to totally shatter the glass. The staff was quick to clean up the mess, some commenting that we weren't allowed to move the tables. They weren't mean about it but you can tell they weren't quite 'jumping for joy' if you know what I mean.

So we proceeded to have dinner, being a little worried that our food would have 'extra special additives'. Dinner was fine, we chatted like our usual selves. When it came time to leave, we apologised to the staff & they said in a joking manner (1/2 joking, 1/2 serious) that we should pay for the costs. They did mention that it costs $800 dollars. We apologised again & left.

We knew they had insurance for things like this, however if they had demanded that we pay, I think it would have been fair as well. I would have wanted to call a glass merchant myself to verify the costs.

Oh well, live & learn. Be thankful for the small mercies ... thank God no one was hurt.
