Kindergarten ...

Seeing that this a period when most are concentrating on exams, I thought I'd post that is somewhat related, my memory of kindergarten. [Why is it spelt 'kindergarten' but pronounced 'kindergarden'?].

My fondest memory of kindergarten was my first foray into social life. Where boys & girls mixed, mind you ... girls were still considered 'yucky' by the boys at the time. Our uniform was weird by todays standards, we had a sailor type design, complete with a short cape. So our shirts were white, with maroon stripes with maroon shorts.

We learnt our numbers and alphabets but I also remembered playing alot. We learnt chinese too ... it seemed so easy then. I will always remember this one particular year ... it was during the December / January period when school was closed and our family 'balik kampung' [went back to see our relatives] in Tawau [a small town about 30 mins flight from Kota Kinabalu, the Yee family is from there too]. Mum received a phone call from dad and was told the good news, I scored third in my class!!! I don't remember everything in great detail, but I do remember feeling very happy. I wasn't the prize or the 'status' of being third, it was because I knew my parents were proud of me. I will always remember that as the best of times.

Sadly, I haven't been able to emulate my 3rd placing later in life and do you know what that means? That means my educational prowess peaked when I was 5 years old and it has been downhill from then on. :P
