Diabetes
Update: Just visited grandma after her operation, everything went fine. She didn't want anyone to fret over her and told us not to visit her during the weekdays since we're working. Same ol' grandma. She's taking it better than I would have, I'd probably be feeling rather sorry for myself. Well, praying to a speedy and smooth recovery.
My grandmother had her left foot amputated today [feels strange even just typing this] due to diabetes. I've always had the impression that this disease is in the minor leagues [not the same as more serious ones like cancer] and that it was easily treatable. In a way, it is indeed treatable through insulin injections, exercise and healthy eating. However in my grandmother's case [she's 80+ years old] she finds it difficult enough to walk let alone exercise, she does try to be careful in terms of what she eats and she was doing well for a while.
Then just a few days ago, she got an infection from cutting herself when she was clipping her toe nails [diabetes was also affecting her eyesight] and she also fell down a few days later. This took a toll on her and gangrene developed in her left foot. She was hospitalised 3 days ago and today they had to operate. We [me & my family] visited her yesterday and surprisingly she was in good spirits, even when she knew she needed the operation. Probably having been a nurse herself, she knew what to expect. She even mentioned that she assisted in amputations during her career.
All that I hope for is for all to go well, the operation and recovery. Would appreciate a short prayer if you don't mind. If you're interested, here is more information about diabetes. If your family has a history of diabetes [like mine], exercise and eat well, you'll thank yourself for it in later life.
